Public Conveniences

Please follow the guidance included on the signage, for your safety and the safety of others. The toilets will be cleaned first thing in the morning.  Please respect our staff and be patient if you need to queue.

Criffel Street Toilets

Summer opening – Easter until 30 September
Mon to Sun – 7.00am to 7.00pm approximately

Winter opening – 1 October to Easter
Mon to Sun – 8.00am to 4.30pm approximately

Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Day

Disabled Toilet – Access 24 hours a day with the use of a Radar key

Changing Places Toilet

Silloth Promenade Toilets, Sea View Car Park – Gender neutral

Open 24 hours a day.

2 x gender neutral toilets.  Both toilets have Baby Changing facilities and are disabled accessible – radar key not required.

Skinburness Toilet

Open 24 hours a day.

Gender neutral toilet.  Also, disabled access with the use of a Radar key.

Charges

The Town Council has introduced a small charge for the use of public toilets to help ensure their long-term sustainability. The ongoing costs of providing these facilities—including cleaning, maintenance, utilities, consumables, and staffing—are significant and continue to rise, and are currently met through local council taxpayers. Introducing a charge helps reduce this financial burden, while ensuring the facilities can remain open, well-maintained, and available for both residents and visitors. There is no charge for facilities accessed using a RADAR key, ensuring continued free access for those who require accessible toilets.

The National Key Scheme (NKS), sometimes known as the RADAR Scheme, was developed because some public toilets designed for disabled people had to be locked to prevent damage and misuse. This has been countered by their being locked separately from other toilets. The NKS aims to provide disabled key holders with independent access to the toilets provided for them and increase the likelihood of the facilities being in a useable state.
