Planning
The planning authority for this area is Cumberland Council. Copies of all planning applications submitted are sent to the Town Clerk and they are then considered by the Town Council. The Town Council’s comments on an application are taken into consideration when the authorities make their decision.
The final decision on planning matters is made by Cumberland Council, either by their Officers, if it is a minor matter, or by the elected Council.
In making their decision the Council take into consideration the following:
- Planning policies as laid down in the Local Plan
- Other planning policies from the County and Government
- Recommendations of the Parish Council
- Letters of objection or support from the general public
Any elector wishing to object or support an application is welcome to look at the plans. Planning applications can be inspected on the Cumberland Council website:- https://www.cumberland.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/search-planning-applications
If an elector wishes to object to an application, it would be helpful if you could forward copies of any such correspondence to the Town Council, so that our Planning Committee is aware of the observations when it decides its own comments.
