Celebrating Success: Silloth Green Shines in Latest Green Flag Evaluation!

We are thrilled to share the fantastic results from our recent Green Flag Award Mystery Shop assessment, conducted on 16 September 2026. The judge awarded Silloth Green an Overall “Green” Result, officially confirming that our park continues to meet the highest national standards with flying colours!

The independent assessor praised Silloth Green as “always a pleasure to visit,” highlighting its beautiful coastal setting, community atmosphere, and exceptional maintenance by our town council team.

Key Highlights & Strengths

  • Welcoming & Accessible: The park received top marks for its open, inviting layout, highly visible signage, and great paths and roadways that make most of the site easily accessible to all visitors.

  • Horticultural Excellence: Judges commended the vast array of vibrant bedding plants, perennials, grassland management, and the newly redeveloped public convenience area which features a stunning floral mural.

  • Safe & Well-Maintained Facilities: Infrastructure, public seating, and play equipment were noted to be in safe, pristine condition, with clear, proactive safety fencing and signage used during routine maintenance.

  • Community Spirit: The fantastic efforts of local volunteers and the “Friends” group—particularly around the rose garden and active social media channels—were recognised as a stellar example of local engagement.

  • Environmental Care: The assessment highlighted positive green initiatives, including numerous bird boxes across the site and our green recycling/composting facility.

Areas for Improvement & Next Steps

To ensure we keep Silloth Green in tip-top shape, the judge also provided a few helpful recommendations that our team is already looking into:

  • Litter Management: While the park was found to be exceptionally clean overall, an extensive litter pick is needed in the shrubbery area protecting the rose garden.

  • Woodland Path Safety: The wooden sleeper path leading to the woodland play area has deteriorated and requires repair to eliminate potential trip hazards.

  • Arboriculture Support: Due to a challenging summer and harsh sea winds, some younger trees in the middle of the Green are showing stress; additional watering solutions (such as water bags) are recommended to help them thrive.

  • Noticeboards: The main park noticeboard needs its event and community information refreshed to keep visitors without internet access fully informed.

A huge thank you goes out to our dedicated council staff, community volunteers, and everyone who helps keep Silloth Green looking spectacular all year round. Come on down, grab an ice cream, and enjoy our award-winning park!
